EBENSBURG, Pa. (WTAJ) — One Cambria County business offers art classes to children who are homeschooled and may not be able to get material for different forms of art.

Classes, at Artistry from Scratch , include ceramics, painting and woodburning to give kids the things that they cannot access in their homes easily.

“We have this innate ability to create, and we all want to create certain things,” Karli Hazlett, the owner of Artistry from Scratch said. “With people being homeschooled, there is a barrier of not getting all that artistic stuff. You can get the math, the science, the reading and everything pretty easily. But when it comes to artistic creativity and doing things like ceramics, you can’t always get that at home.”

She started the idea after some friends approached her with an opportunity to work with the community. After hosting adult classes, opening up to children was a no-brainer, especially being a homeschool mom.

“Being able to bring in more unique variations of artistic events for homeschool families is really important,” Hazlett added. “I feel that’s an area I excel in, whereas other homeschool families might not. I feel like with my expertise, I can help other families engage in that more elaborate artistic events than they can do in their own home.”

Classes happen every week, and Hazlett looks to grow the size with each new activity. She plans to continue that throughout the rest of the school year.
