CENTRE COUNTY, Pa. (WTAJ) – The Centre County Anti-Hunger Program is assisting those in the South who were affected by Hurricane Helene.

On Tuesday, Oct. 8th the program will hopefully be sending five full tractor-trailers of food, water, hygiene items, clothes and more to North Carolina. This is a partnership between all the Pennsylvania YMCAs.

“This is all about taking care of kids, making sure kids have food, have clothing, senior citizens the same thing. You know, a lot of families lost everything they had. And you get up into the mountain areas, which where this food is going they have nothing,” Director of the Centre County Anti-Hunger Program Mel Curtis said.

Curtis said each truck will be filled with 26 pallets of the essential items needed to survive. He also says this is a crucial time as the weather is changing and it’s getting colder each day.
