BLAIR COUNTY, Pa. (WTAJ) — A group of Blair County residents opened three trailers to haul supplies for victims of Hurricane Helene.

The group has partnered with Rise Disaster Relief and Recovery, a North Carolina based organization that is helping with the recovery efforts in western North Carolina and East Tennessee. They have already made two trips down to the area to help residents in need.

“It started out as ‘Let’s see if we can even fill a small trailer’,” Michael Blazer, one helper said. “And now we’re taking skids of material.”

Blazer watched the first trailer get filled and hauled off to the area of impact. The second time around he joined it and helped out Billy White with the expedition.

They originally had help from the community, but other businesses pitched in for the cause.

“The first collection went extremely well,” Blazer added. “So we decided to do another day, another week’s worth, and as you can see by the trailer, it is overly abundant and the community stepped up.”

Trailers are spotted in three locations around the county:

    • East Freedom WalMart parking lot
    • East Freedom Best Way Pizza parking lot
    • The Dream Restaurant in Hollidaysburg

They are asking for immediate supplies like water, non perishable foods, batteries and baby supplies. They are accepting other donations in forms of money or other items to aid those who need help.

Donations continue until Thursday at 7 p.m., before the trailers hit the road to North Carolina.
