POLICE: Pennsylvania duo facing charges for abusing 15-month-old

CLEARFIELD COUNTY, Pa. (WTAJ) —Two people have been charged after they allegedly abused a 15-month-old toddler.

Nicholas Cowder, 22, of Clearfield, and Ashlee Daniels, 18, of Altoona are facing charges after officers with the Clearfield Regional Police Department were contacted about a case of alleged abuse, according to a report. On Oct. 2 officers received a report about suspected abuse of a 15-month-old.

During the investigation and through multiple interviews, officers determined that there were four possible incidents in which the toddler could have gotten the injuries. The toddler had a broken tibia and a bruise to the head, according to the report.

All four incidents occurred between Sept. 22 and Sept. 25. Police noted that the toddler did not receive care until Sept. 27 and that both Cowder and Daniels were deceptive to police, medical staff and CYS during the investigation.

Officers determined that the toddler had been forced into a “timeout” chair, which caused the injuries and then the toddler fell out of the chair due to them not being able to put pressure on their leg, according to the release.

Both Cowder and Daniels are facing charges of aggravated assault, simple assault, endangering the welfare of a child, obstructing law enforcement and unsworn falsification to authorities.

According to the release both have preliminary hearings scheduled for the near future.
