BEDFORD, Pa. (WTAJ) — Bedford Area School Districts were awarded a grant for security upgrades — they’re one of only four in Pennsylvania to get this grant.

The grant, worth $337,500, comes from the School Violence Prevention Program grant as part of COPS (Community Oriented Policing Services). The program is administered by the Department of Justice (DOJ) and provides grants to state, local, territorial and tribal law enforcement agencies.

The Bedford Area School District is required to match the grant with $112,500, and the funding will be used to enhance security measures such as upgrading camera systems, access control technology and communication systems.

The district said that key improvements will include:

    • Upgraded surveillance system at Bedford High School.
    • Enhanced access control system.
    • Integrated surveillance system.
    • Upgraded intercom/public address system.

The district said the upgrades are “aimed at improving school safety and providing a more secure and supportive environment for students and staff of the Bedford Area School District.”
