CAMBRIA COUNTY, Pa. (WTAJ) — A former Cambria County police officer was honored in his hometown three years after dying in the line of duty.

Matthew Krupa, a Nanty Glo native, was killed in an accident in February 2021 while driving to work. He served in five different borough police departments in our area before moving out west.

Family, friends and state officials renamed a bridge in his honor during a ceremony at the Nanty Glo Fire Department. Krupa’s sister said the dedication will help ensure his service and legacy are never forgotten.

“I made a promise to myself and to him whenever he was killed, that I wouldn’t let his name be forgotten. So I thought the bridge, it would be a constant reminder that we will be there forever for him,” Krupa’s sister Brittany Brown said.

The bridge carries U.S. Route 22 over a tributary of Hinckston Run in Jackson Township.
