ARMSTRONG COUNTY, Pa. (WTAJ) — A man is being charged with murder of the first degree after another man who was reported missing was found dead.

David Kimberly, 53, of Rural Valley, was reported missing Sept. 28 after his family was concerned because they hadn’t heard from him, according to Pennsylvania State Police (PSP). Kimberly had originally left his residence Sept. 23 in a van with some of his belongings, which was the last time any family had heard from him.

Troopers conducted an investigation and subsequently entered Kimberly as a missing person. PSP noted that on Oct. 6, the Kittanning Criminal Investigations Unit took over the investigation.

On Oct. 12, Kimberly’s van was found in a wooded area near his residence. The van had been altered in an attempt to conceal its location, according to troopers. During the course of the investigation, Cody Weiland, 33, allegedly confessed to shooting Kimberly with a firearm inside of a residence along Reefer Hollow Road.

He also allegedly told police that he had then moved Kimberly’s body to a “remote” location in Jefferson County.

Weiland is now facing charges of murder in the first degree, criminal homicide, abuse of a corpse, tampering with evidence and false reports. He is currently being held in the Armstrong County Jail awaiting arraignment.
