UPDATE: The 16-year old girl has been found after 16 hours of searching in Hyndman.

A neighbor spotted her in the office next to the neighbor’s house, sitting on a bench looking out a glass window. Officials say that she spent the night in the building.

Crews from Pennsylvania and Maryland searched the area with a radius of one mile overnight, being stationed at the Hyndman Volunteer Fire Department building. A call came in at 9 p.m. Monday night, with the girl being found at 11 a.m. the next morning.

“We’re lucky,” Aaron Campbell, the fire chief at Hyndman Volunteer Fire Dept. said. “With her, we’ve had a couple over the last couple of years. Usually we don’t have anybody coming up missing, so we’re probably lucky.”

The child has a history of running away from home over the years due to her autism. “This time here was the worst because we couldn’t find her within the first couple of hours,” Campbell added.

The 16-year-old has returned to her home. No injuries were reported.
