DUNCANSVILLE, Pa. (WTAJ) — A pet store is asking for donations to aid animals affected by Hurricane Milton in Florida.

The Poochey Chef, in conjunction with Sylvan Veterinary and the Mia Foundation, is helping out animals and shelters who need food and supplies. They are asking for items such as dog and cat food, cat litter, medical supplies and cleaning supplies.

“A lot of these rescues, they got the animals out of safety, but then everything else was left behind,” Anne Trexler, one of the donation drive organizers, said. “So dog food, cat food, cat litter, and then for cleaning bleach, latex gloves, work gloves and paper towels. Just all the things that they’re going to need to get these dogs and cats back healthy and safe.”

The idea started when Trexler’s daughter, Brittnee Trexler, noticed how homes and businesses got the help, but not the rescue shelters. She decided to take action.

“It’s just sad knowing that all these rescues are getting wiped out and that I keep seeing people get the help,” Brittnee said. “I haven’t seen anything about the animals. I’m all about the animals.”

Donations are being accepted today at the Poochey Chef. The truck will start to load up on Oct. 16 and Oct. 17 from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m.
