Study shows the scariest movies to watch during Halloween

(WTAJ) — BOO! Did we scare you? If not, we have a list of the scariest movies to watch this spooky season that just might do the job instead.

A new study conducted by casino experts at VIP Grinders focused on looking into a number of factors when ranking these “Halloween horrors.” Some data included the number of jump scares, fear-related words in scripts, Letterboxd reviews and keywords relating to fear overall.

After weighing in on all factors, experts found that Don’t Listen (Voces) (2020), a Spanish-language horror, is the scariest movie of all time. The movie, which is based on a character seeking out a paranormal expert to uncover the truth about a tragic incident, was reported to have 27 jump scares.

The Evil Dead (1981) took second and Evil Dead (2013) took third. The original movie scored a 9.3 out of 10 on the “gory” scary meter and has 22 jump scares over the 80-minute runtime. The 2013 Evil Dead brought in 20 jump scares and was given a score of 9.2 out of 10.

Honorable mentions of fourth through ninth included movies such as The Beyond (1981), It (2017), Scream (1996), Host (2020), [Rec] 2 (2009), The Cleansing Hour (2019) and The Haunting in Connecticut (2009.)

“Some classic names made the list, and others just missed out on the top spot, including Friday the 13th , Insidious , and A Nightmare on Elm Street , all of which are much-loved installments of the genre.
