Investigation into two Garner CI inmate deaths

NEWTOWN, Conn. (WTIC Radio) - The Connecticut Department of Correction is investigating two separate deaths at Garner Correctional Institution in Newtown.

The first incident happened Friday, July 19, when an inmate was found unresponsive in his cell.

Another inmate was found unresponsive in his cell on Sunday, July 21.

In both cases, the DOC says correctional and facility medical staff administered life saving measures, but that neither individual survived.

Because both incidences are the subject of ongoing Department of Correction and State Police investigations.

No further information is available at this time.
