(WTIC Radio) - The Food and Drug Administration is out with a warning concerning oysters from Massachusetts.

The FDA says oysters harvested from Lewis Bay, Massachusetts between July 1, 2024 and July 18, 2024 might be contaminated with Campylobacter jejuni.

The bacteria could cause illness in someone who consumes any potentially contaminated oysters raw.

Symptoms can include bloody diarrhea, fever, and stomach cramps. They can appear within two to five days of consumption and last a week long.

Retailers and restaurants are being told to neither sell nor serve those oysters.

Any retailers with that product should throw them away and sanitize anything they may have touched.

Consumers who may have eaten them and fall ill should contact their healthcare provider.
