Naugatuck emergency director accused of impersonating police officer

Naugatuck, Conn./WTIC Radio - Naugatuck's emergency management director is facing charges of impersonating a police officer.

It stems from an incident in which Walter Dambowsky, 74, allegedly pulled a motorist over on June 3rd.

Dambowsky drives a town-issued Chevy Tahoe with lights and a siren.

A complaintant stated that Dambowsky pulled them over on May Street, flashed a badge, and proceeded to issue a lecture on safe driving.

Dambowsky denied activating the lights and siren to Naugatuck police, saying he did yell at someone who cut him off.

The case was then turned over to state police.

Troopers say Dambowsky has been investigated in the past but it was determined he didn't break any laws.

In their investigation into the June incident, the Tahoe was seized over concerns evidence could have been destroyed.

Additionally, Dambowsky is facing charges of evidence tampering and breach of peace.

He's due in court August 20th.
