WINDSOR LOCKS, Conn. (WTIC Radio) - The Connecticut Department of Energy and Environmental Protection says crews are working to contain a chemical spill Wednesday.

DEEP personnel responded to a call for a possible hazmat situation at the FedEx shipping facility on Old County Circle in Windsor Locks.

Nitric acid was spilled, although it remains unclear how the spill happened.

DEEP personnel stopped the leak and a permitted environmental contractor is on scene to clean the spill.

Police directed residents and other people in the area to avoid the scene.
