Farmington, Conn./WTIC Radio - The Eastern Equine Encephalitis virus appears to be tracking west in Connecticut.

On Friday, in a post on its website, the town of Farmington reported that mosquitoes trapped in town had tested positive for EEE.

The virus is transmitted through mosquito bites.

It is rare, but can cause neurological issues and can be fatal in some more serious cases.

One person has died from the virus in New Hampshire.

In Connecticut, there've been no human cases reported.

The state Department of Energy and Environmental Protection's mosquito management program sprayed for mosquitos at a state forest in Voluntown last month.

The Farmington Valley Health District advises residents to take precautions if out when mosquitoes are active, including wearing long clothing and using repellent.

It also advises getting rid of any standing water around homes that could foster mosquito breeding grounds.
