    USDA warns about illegally imported meat sold in Connecticut

    NEW HAVEN, Conn. (WTNH) — Check your meat — it may have been illegally imported and be potentially dangerous, according to the U.S. Department of Agriculture.

    The USDA Food Safety and Inspection Service put out a warning about the products on Thursday. The meat was illegally imported from the Philippines, which is not allowed to export it to the U.S.

    The meat was sent to restaurants and stores in Connecticut, Delaware, Maryland, New Jersey, New York, North Carolina, Ohio, South Carolina and Virginia.

    The warning applies to these products [ view labels ]:

    • 150-g. can of “Argentina BRAND CORNED BEEF.”
    • 175-g. can of “Argentina BRAND CORNED BEEF.”
    • 260-g. can of “Argentina BRAND CORNED BEEF.”
    • 150-g. can of “PUREFOODS CORNED BEEF.”
    • 210-g. can of “PUREFOODS CORNED BEEF.”
    • 150-g. can of “CHUNKEE CORNED BEEF.”
    • 190-g. can of “CHUNKEE CORNED BEEF.”
    • 7.43-oz. jar of “Lady’s Choice Chicken Spread.”

    Stores that bought the meat are asked not to sell them. Consumers are advised to double bag the product before throwing it out so that animals can’t eat it.

    No one has reported getting sick because of the meat, according to the USDA.
