82-year-old dies after multi-vehicle crash in Northfield

NORTHFIELD, Conn. (WTNH) — Connecticut State Police officials say an 82-year-old man is dead following a crash on Route 254 Tuesday morning.

The crash happened around 10:48 a.m. Police said a 2015 Honda Civic LX was traveling southbound on Route 254 and a 2024 Volkswagen Taos Se was traveling northbound when a 2008 Toyota RAV4 Limited tried to cross the intersection at Main Street.

As a result, the Honda was struck into the northbound lane and hit head-on by the RAV4.

The driver of the Honda was transported to a hospital with life-threatening injuries and later succumbed to his injuries.

Police identified the driver as 82-year-old David Foster Kaufman of Watertown.

The driver of the Volkswagen suffered minor injuries and was transported to a hospital. The third driver had no apparent injury, according to police.
