Bear spotted steps away from Litchfield Stop & Shop: VIDEO

LITCHFIELD, Conn. (WTNH) — This bear was probably doing what we all do at a grocery store- looking for food. Unlike us, it was so unique, one viewer took a video.

Jay Reason caught a video of the bear just steps away from the entrance of the Stop & Shop on Village Green Drive Monday.

Neither state police or the Department of Energy and Environmental Protection said they received calls about the bear’s appearance.

When asked about the occurrence, DEEP officials said Connecticut residents are fortunate o live in a state with an amazing diversity of wildlife.

“This time of year, it is not unusual for us to see bears in unexpected places at various times of the day,” officials said. “It could be walking through a neighborhood park, crossing a road, or even passing thorough a shopping plaza.”

They said it’s important for everyone to be “bear wise” by staying alert while driving and making noise if you see a bear, so they see you too and are encouraged to move along. You can always try scaring the bear to get them away- by beeping your car horn, yelling at them, or banging on objects nearby.
