NEW HAVEN, Conn. (WTNH) — In an effort to curb increased misconduct, unruly behavior, property damage, and more, the Connecticut Department of Energy and Environmental Protection has reimposed a temporary alcohol ban at several recreation areas.

The ban is in effect from Tuesday, Aug. 13 through Saturday, Nov. 10.

It affects the following seven state recreation areas:

“We wanted to extend it just so that, you know, we get that beautiful warm fall; there isn’t that all of a sudden, ‘Oh, the ban is over now. It’s a free for all,” Officer Elise Bouthillier with DEEP said.

A 90-day alcohol ban at the Naugatuck State Park is still in effect. It includes the areas commonly known as Seymour Reservoirs 1 through 4 and the surrounding area.

The locations above were identified as recreation areas that have experienced “increased crowds and alcohol consumption” over the years, which DEEP officials say has led to complaints, property damage and generally inappropriate behavior.

“DEEP encourages responsible outdoor recreation, and this measure helps to ensure that Connecticut’s state parks, forests, and boat launches are welcoming and family-friendly outdoor spaces,” Commissioner Katie Dykes said in a statement released Thursday.

If you see someone consuming alcohol at a state park, you should call the DEEP 24-hour hotline at 860-424-3333, according to Bouthillier.

There have been 20 incidents of disorderly conduct and alcohol warnings that resulted in a warning or infraction this year, according to DEEP.

“Complaints have decreased this kind of activity, so the proof is in the pudding,” DEEP Officer Elise Bouthillier said.

DEEP said there have been 20 disorderly conduct incidents and alcohol violations so far this year.

If you violate the alcohol ban, you can be fined $75 dollars and be evicted from that recreation area.

I don’t mind ppl having a drink or two at a picknick at a park, it’s when they have too much and they start acting like idiots. If you can’t hold your booze you shouldn’t be drinking and if you’re at a party and someone gets drunk and is starting s*** with people it’s up to you to bring them home and away from others who are just having a nice day with their families.
