WOODBRIDGE, Conn. (WTNH) — Six of the dozens of animals rescued from harsh conditions at a Woodbridge home are now up for adoption, according to the East Haven Animal Shelter.

Shelter officials said six female dogs between the ages of 5 months and 2 years are available. They’re all heartworm and Lyme Disease negative and have received their rabies vaccine.

Officials said they’ve gotten a lot of interest in the small dogs that were rescued last week.

More than 40 animals were removed from a single household after the owner was charged with animal cruelty and accused of keeping the animals in “horrid” conditions.

Jessica Moffo is the chief animal control officer at the Woodbridge Regional Animal Control. She estimated upwards of 70 animals were at the home.

As of Aug. 10, 23 dogs, 20 cats and kittens, seven bunnies and one guinea pig have been impounded in the shelter. At the time, Moffo said they planned to impound 30 to 35 cats still at the home.

Applications for the female dogs will only be open until Saturday. Applications can be found on the town website or interested parties can stop by the shelter to get one from the mailbox on the dogs cages.

Shelters and rescues from North Haven, East Haven, New Haven and Bridgeport stepped up to help take the animals in. The dogs were also spread out amongst One More Dog Rescue, Halfway Home Rescue, Perfect Imperfections Rescue and the Westerly Animal Shelter.
