    Campers, DEEP staff successfully evacuated Kettletown State Park in Southbury

    SOUTHBURY, Conn. (WTNH) — The Department of Energy & Environmental Protection successfully evacuated campers and staff members stranded at Kettletown State Park on Sunday.

    DEEP officials said 43 campers and three DEEP staffers were stuck in the park due to a washed-out bridge in the area. Officials said the campers were not “in present danger” when they were stranded.

    Kent Fire Department, Sherman Fire Department, U.S. Army Reserve, and DEEP EnCon Police assisted in the evacuations.

    DEEP said anyone who isn’t rescue/emergency personnel should avoid the area.
