KILLINGWORTH, Conn. (WTNH) — Two motorcycle occupants suffered serious injuries after colliding with a pick-up truck Friday afternoon on Route 80 in Killingworth, says state police.

Friday at 4:46 p.m., witnesses in the area told investigators that a 2020 Toyota Tacoma Access Cab ignored the stop sign South of the Roast Meat Hill Rd. and Rt. 80 intersection, causing a 2011 Harley Davidson motorcycle traveling West along Rt. 80 to crash into its passenger side.

The two occupants of the motorcycle, a 58-year-old woman and a 66-year-old man, were ejected and determined to have serious injuries. Both occupants were transported to Yale New Haven Hospital, one by ambulance and the other by LifeStar helicopter.

State police say that at this time, it is unknown which occupant was driving the motorcycle. The operator of the Toyota is an 85-year-old male who refused medical care.

The crash is still being investigated and officials say “enforcement action will be taken pending further investigation.”

Anyone with information on this crash is asked to call Trooper Rennie at 860-399-2100.

I understand seniors are a large voting block but at what point do we demand seniors get reevaluated in order to determine if they are still capable of being safe drivers? 85 is old by any standard. Maybe just maybe public safety is more important than unsafe seniors being allowed to endanger the rest of us.
