    80-year-old man dies in East Lyme crash

    EAST LYME, Conn. (WTNH) — An 80-year-old man is dead after a car accident on Friday on Route 161 in East Lyme, according to police.

    The accident happened at around 12:30 p.m. near the intersection of Chesterfield Road and Drabik road. When officials arrived to the scene, they found one vehicle rolled over with the operator still fastened with his seatbelt in the drivers seat. The belt was cut, and life saving measures were attempted before he was transported to Lawrence and Memorial Hospital where he was later pronounced deceased.

    Additionally, while officers were still at the scene of this fatal crash, another vehicle crashed approximately 500 feet south of this scene. The operator had minor injuries and was transported to the hospital after veering off the roadway and hitting a tree, according to officials. The tree broke and fell onto Chesterfield Road, and has since been removed from the roadway.
