Regional School District 15 goes back-to-school with adjusted bus routes

SOUTHBURY, Conn. (WTNH)—Regional School District 15 is back to school on Tuesday with some adjustments after historic flash flooding damaged roads and homes in the area last weekend.

“This week we worked through multiple transportation scenarios and evolving plans, with the goal of providing door-to-door transportation to the majority of our families,” district officials said in a statement on their website .

District officials said there are about 123 miles of roads in Southbury, and only about 10 miles remained closed as of Sunday.

On Saturday, bus drivers drove along the new routes to ensure they could pass through safely.

District officials said some bus routes may be longer because certain routes are not currently available for use.

Most bus routes will be able to offer both morning and afternoon transportation. A few families significantly impacted by the road conditions will need to go to the end of a street or travel a short distance to get to a bus stop.

“The start of the school year typically requires extra time as students and families adjust to school year schedules, and this year, as we start the school year in the wake of a natural disaster, your support, patience and grace is greatly appreciated,” district officials said.
