MERIDEN, Conn. (WTNH) — Connecticut is expanding the health care subsidies program for the state’s paraeducators.

On Tuesday, Gov. Ned Lamont and state Comptroller Sean Scanlon announced that the program signed into law last year will devote another $10 million to cover an additional 2,200 paraeducators this coming year.

“We will cover a health care subsidy to all of the paraeducators in the state of Connecticut who get offered health insurance by their school district, and I think that’s something to be very proud of as a state,” Lamont said.

In 2023, more than 4,000 paraeducators received an average of nearly $1,200 each in assistance.
