STORRS, Conn. (WTNH) — State leaders are pushing for UConn to offer more student housing to meet the demand for the rising enrollment.

UConn revises campus policies in wake of protests

State Senate President Martin Looney and Majority Leader Bob Duff sent a letter to UConn’s president Radenka Maric, expressing that they would like to see an investment in housing at the Storrs and Stamford campuses.

Their concern is that the increased competition for spots at UConn means that a large number of high academic performers will choose to leave the state and not return.

“We are also looking to renovate existing dorms that we have, and we are also looking into private partnership across the street with Storrs housing and leasing some of those to make sure that we accommodate all the students,” President Radenka Maric said in response to their request.

The leaders said that they hope to see a long-term plan for enrollment and housing.
