HARTFORD, Conn. (WTNH) — A fleet of scooters is set to swoop in on the state in the coming months, starting with our Capitol city.

Veo was slated to deliver its initial fleet of 220 standing scooters to Hartford on Aug. 28.

The program- a partnership between Veo, the city, and the Capitol Region Council of Governments- will expand to New Haven in the coming months, with plans to continue expanding to more communities next year.

Scooters were first launched in Hartford in 2021, after a request for proposal by the CRCOG. In 2023, News 8 reported nearly 500,000 rides and almost a million miles traveled on scooters.

However, when the company offering those LINK scooters- Superpedestrian- shut down operations at the end of 2023, the city lost its scooters .

Executive Director of the CRCOG Matt Hart said they’re excited to once again help provide residents and visitors an “affordable, car-free, and fun way of exploring.”

“When beginning the search for a new vendor, CRCOG set out to establish a successful, long-term partnership to enhance mobility in the region, and we believe Veo can deliver,” Hart siad.

Riders 18 years or older can locate the scooters using the Veo app, which also allows them to scan a QR code and pay $1 to unlock the vehicle, then 0.36 cents per minute to ride.

As part of a launch promotion, riders can get $5 in fee credit with the promo code Hart24 through Sept. 30. More information on how to ride and available discounts for people with low incomes is available on the Veo website .
