CONNECTICUT (WTNH) — Veterinary prices are on the rise in Connecticut, and state leaders are pushing for a change.

Leaders say that private equity firms are buying up local veterinary practices, which is contributing heavily to the price increase.

“We’re seeing adoption rates that are being impacted — fewer people are adopting because they’re having to make a commitment with that adoption to private care, and that care cost is having an impact on people’s decisions to acquire pets,” James Bias, the executive director of the Connecticut Humane Society said.

The cost of veterinary care in the state has climbed by 60% in the last 10 years.
