OXFORD, Conn. (WTNH) — Crews have cleared 1.2 million pounds of debris since historic flooding hit the Oxford area earlier this month.

Additionally 23 of the 30 closed state roads have reopened, four of the five impacted railroads are now operating on schedule and 40 bridges have been inspected, according to a Friday update from Gov. Ned Lamont’s office.

State Road 34 and Route 67 are prioritized to reopen. Plans to install temporary bridges are also in the works.

“Our focus has been restoring infrastructure to ensure no one is cut off from their neighbors and community,” Connecticut Transportation Commissioner Garrett Eucalitto said in a written statement. “We’ve rebuilt nearly two dozen roads and have plans in place to reopen several more by the end of the month. Thank you to incredible work of CTDOT crews, contractor partners, and local public works staff who have been working around the clock.”

State crews continue to work with FEMA to try and get additional funding to the area. Groups have also banded together to try and provide donations to people who were impacted.
