NEW HAVEN, Conn. (WTNH) — A free public health and wellness resource fair was held on the New Haven Green on Friday in honor of International Overdose Awareness Day on Aug. 31.

People were taught how to recognize the signs of an overdose and how to use Narcan.

“It’s important to get education in the hands of people,” Kathy Eggert, director of the APT Foundation, said. “People don’t understand that we are losing people everyday to opioid overdoses and it’s absolutely preventable. It can happen to anybody, anywhere, anytime.”

116 people died from drug overdose in New Haven last year.
