CROMWELL, Conn. (WTNH) — State police are searching for the driver of a vehicle that seriously injured a pedestrian Friday night on Interstate 91 in Cromwell.

State police say just after 8:00 p.m., a 2023 Tesla Model registered in Massachusetts was occupied by six individuals, one of whom was a soon-to-be three-year-old child.

For an unspecified reason, the 38-year-old Tesla driver parked on the right shoulder of I-91 South just prior to exit 21 and exited the vehicle. Shortly after, a 2017 Honda traveling in the right lane swerved into the right shoulder and struck both the Tesla and the driver standing outside of it.

The driver of the Honda fled the scene and left the Tesla operator with serious injuries. The five occupants in the Tesla were unharmed.

The Honda is a small, white sedan with damage to the front driver’s side.

Authorities are asking anyone with information to contact state police at 860-534-1000.
