Hamden holding memorial service for Fatman Scoop after singer collapsed on stage and later died

HAMDEN, Conn. (WTNH) — Hamden is inviting the public to a celebration of life to memorialize Fatman Scoop, a hip-hop artist who died after collapsing on stage during a concert Friday.

The service will take place from 7 p.m. to 9 p.m. Friday at Town Center Park, located at 2761 Dixwell Ave. It will be held at Thornton Wilder Auditorium if it rains.

“I offer my heartfelt condolences to the family and friends of Isaac Freeman III, known as Fatman Scoop,” Mayor Lauren Garrett said in a written announcement. “He was a wonderful performer with a wide following as evidenced by his millions of fans that adored him world-wide.”

Licensed grief counselors will be available, and speakers will pay tribute to Scoop.

“His music made us dance and embrace life with positivity,” his family wrote in an Instagram post. “His joy was infectious and the generosity he extended to all will be deeply missed but never forgotten.”

Scoop was known for songs like “Be Faithful,” and had collaborated with Missy Elliott, Ciara, Mariah Carey, Timbaland, David Guetta and Skrillex.

He was performing as part of the Hamden Arts Commission Free Summer Concert Series at the park when he experienced the medical emergency. First responders and members of the audience rushed to help him as the crowd was led in a group prayer

His cause of death has not been released.
