TOLLAND, Conn. (WTNH) — A traffic stop led to the arrest of two suspects transporting over 600 bags of suspected fentanyl in Tolland County Saturday, state police say.

Two troopers were patrolling Interstate 84 on Aug. 31 when they noticed a rental vehicle tailgating another car and stopped the vehicle as it entered the eastbound Willington Rest Area.

While speaking to the occupants, the troopers learned they were residents of Maine with “substantial” arrest histories. During their conversation with the suspects, probable cause was established that the vehicle contained narcotics.

State police said a search found over 600 bags of suspected fentanyl (124 grams), two grams of suspected methamphetamine, and a small amount of crack cocaine.

State police said a young pit-bull terrier mix was also removed from the vehicle by Tolland Animal Control.

Both occupants were taken into custody and held on $50,000 cash/surety bonds. They’re both scheduled to appear at GA-19 Rockville on Sept. 3.
