ROCKY HILL, Conn. (WTNH) — New temporary housing is coming to the Connecticut Veterans Affairs main campus in Rocky Hill.

VA in Rocky Hill receives funding to renovate housing units

News 8 got a look inside of the units that will be remodeled. In total, seven buildings will be renovated and at the end of the project, up to 46 veterans will have a new place to call home.

The buildings are said to be in good shape, according to Veterans Affairs. Painting, widening of doors, removal of any hazardous materials, new furniture and appliances will be part of the makeover for the buildings.

“The buildings are in good shape, the buildings have not been occupied in approximately 15 years, but others, have been as recently as 5 years ago in the pre-Covid era,” Joe Danao, deputy commissioner of CT Department of Veterans Affairs, said.

The housing is temporary and designed for one year, maybe two years in some cases.

Veterans Affairs say a lack of funding kept the buildings unoccupied for so long.  Federal Covid Relief dollars are funding the improvements.

The goal is to start having veterans moving in by the spring of 2025.

Lack of funding? Covid relief dollars? Should be no excuses, Veterans first! At least they're getting a start here.
