NEW HVAEN, Conn. (WTNH) — The Wilbur Cross High School library will be closed for about a week as crews clean up mold spores detected in the air, according to school officials.

School officials said reports of mold in the library led to testing the area, which found spores of the genus aspergillus, known to worsen breathing conditions such as asthma.

The library, two classrooms, two offices, and a multi-faith flex space in the library suite are expected to be closed for about seven to 10 days.

Those spaces will be unavailable during the clean up, which will include vacuuming all surfaces with a HEPA vacuum and using HEPA filters to scrub spores from the air. The work itself is expected to take two or three days.

School officials said more testing will be done after the cleanup, to ensure the space is safe to use again.
