BLOOMFIELD, Conn. (WTNH) – Officials have lifted the lockdown at Bloomfield High School after receiving a report that a student had a gun.

The suspect was not armed when officers spoke with them, according to police, who added that students were “hoaxed.”

The school was placed into lockdown as police searched for a possible gun. No gun was found, and police brought in a K-9 unit to support the investigation out of an abundance of caution.

“We understand the concern this situation may cause, but we are working closely with law enforcement to ensure the safety of our school community,” Bethany Silver, the district’s interim superintendent, said in a written statement.
