PLAINFIELD, Conn. (WTNH) — A Plainfield man was arrested on Thursday for allegedly selling illegal narcotics, according to police.

Joseph Barry, 38, had been a wanted person by the Plainfield Police Department after they discovered that he allegedly was selling illegal narcotics in the Waruegan Village area of town.

An undercover police officer found Barry pass his residence as a passenger in a vehicle. A marked police officer then stopped the car in a parking lot near 51 South Walnut St. in Wauregan.

Barry attempted to flee the scene once being pulled over and resisted officers before they were finally able to gain control of him. He allegedly tried to swallow a bag of crack cocaine once he was pulled over, and began to choke on it as a result. Officers removed the bag from his airway, and more crack cocaine along with drug paraphernalia was found in his car.

He was charged with failure to appear, interfering with police, possession and intent to sell, along with assault of a police officer. He is being held on a $52,500 bond.
