WINDSOR, Conn. (WTNH) — Parents of Windsor and Bloomfield High School students were shaken up on Thursday after both schools entered lockdown.

In Bloomfield, it was reported that a student had a gun. In Windsor, two students had gotten into an altercation, resulting in one allegedly saying that they were going to shoot the other and then shoot up the whole school.

“We were nervous so we moved into the corner, the teacher locked the door, put the blinds down and stuff for like 45 minutes,” Jahkir Gilbert, a Windsor student, said. “We were there for 45 minutes.”

No guns were found at either school.

The lockdowns come as many schools in the state, including Windsor and Bloomfield, implement stricter cell phone rules. Parents said that incidents like today made them wish their student had access to their phones in school, so that they could contact them if needed.

“Because it gives us peace of mind to know that our kids are okay, sometimes just hearing your child’s voice can get you through,” Breanna Hartfield said.

A Windsor educator said that students cannot have their phones visible in class and the teacher can secure them, but they do have access to them in an emergency situation.

“During the lockdown, I was on my phone trying to see what was going on,” Gilbert said. “My friends were telling me what was going on, because we were all in different classrooms, some were in the cafeteria, and we were trying to see if they could see anything over there.”

No one was injured and no arrests were made in either incident.

I was for the cell phones not being in the classrooms, but now, please allow them to be in the classroom because of things like this that continue to happen.
