ANSONIA, Conn. (WTNH) — Students can expect to see an increased presence of police officers at Ansonia Middle School Friday.

This comes after reports on social media that a gun was in the school yesterday – but that turned out to be false.

Windsor, Bloomfield parents share concerns after both schools went into lockdown

The additional police will be just as a caution.

Just this week, we saw two schools placed on lockdown – one in Bloomfield, the other in Windsor.

On Thursday afternoon, a code red was announced at Windsor High School.

Parents could be seen rushing to the building, standing out front, searching for answers- each one wanting to know if their child was safe.

According to reports, there was a fight involving two students and one was threatened with a gun.

Over in Bloomfield, there was another report of a student with a gun. That student was detained and the campus was swept. However, a gun was never found.

Just last month, the state Board of Education approved a new policy guideline that recommends a cell phone ban.

If students don’t have cell phones they can’t alert parents about these kinds of problems.

“It’s good and it’s bad. Because some students abuse it, but just one text alone can start a war,” parent Lily Klass Sen said.

Another parent said it’s helpful for their kids to have cell phones because as a peace of mind because “sometimes just hearing your child’s voice, can get you through.”

Most schools have had cellphone policies for years that they don't bother to enforce. They complain about terrible parenting when some of the worst childrearing practices happen in the schools.
