STAMFORD, Conn. (WTNH) — A female student at Stamford High School was arrested and charged for making online threats using the social media app known as Snapchat.

On Friday at 2:00 p.m., the FBI notified the Stamford Police Department’s Dispatch Center about a shooting threat made online. Police say the student threatened to “shoot up the school,” which prompted investigators to search for her location rapidly.

Investigators determined the phone number linked to the Snapchat account belonged to a resident in Stamford, and the exact location was pinpointed to Stamford High School.

Detectives identified the student, and she was apprehended by the school’s resource officer and officers with the patrol division.

Police say no weapon was found in the school.

The student was associated with two separate residences, which officials thoroughly searched, and no weapon was discovered.

The student was charged with threatening and breach of peace in the first degree. The student will appear in court on September 13.

This investigation is ongoing, and officials are working with Snapchat to obtain additional information.
