    Middlefield Volunteer Fire Company celebrates 90 years of service

    MIDDLEFIELD, Conn. (WTNH) – The Middlefield Volunteer Fire Company celebrated their 90th anniversary by dedicating two new trucks in the traditional fashion Saturday afternoon.

    A crowd gathered at the Middlefield firehouse on the corner of Jackson Hill Road and Route 157 to see the the new trucks reporting for service.

    Both trucks received a “wet down,” when the new trucks are sprayed by the other fire truck’s hoses and the vehicles are then blessed by their local Chaplain. Finally, the trucks are pushed by hand into the garage, the same way that was done 90 years ago with horses and wagons.

    “Fire departments are deep in tradition,” Fire Chief Peter Tyc told News 8. “This is just one of them that we like to preserve and it’s a thing that signifies the past as well as the future.”
