Rain doesn’t stop New Haven Pride from celebrating for a 28th year

NEW HAVEN, Conn. (WTNH) – Occasional showers didn’t stop a crowd from coming out to celebrate New Haven’s 28th Pride Saturday afternoon.

One thing that makes New Haven’s Pride unique is that New Haven celebrates LBTQ+ Pride in the month of September, as opposed to June. This tradition came about in 2005 when New Haven’s Pride parade was pushed back to ease scheduling conflicts with NYC Pride.

This year’s Pride celebration featured cornhole, a photobooth, plenty of vendors and put a particular focus on their Health and Wellness Village.

Director of Community Outreach for the Neighborhood Health Project, Ryan Sutherland, told News 8,  “… For people who identify as LGBT, it can be very difficult for them to connect with health and wellness resources in the community, and so we’re trying to make people feel included, feel safe, and feel welcome to engage with health services. ”

The Health and Wellness Village wasn’t solely focused on physical health. They also feature immigrant and refugee services and resources for people struggling with housing. You can learn more about the Neighborhood Health Project here .
