GoFundMe created for mother of 6-year-old found dead after Middlefield house fire

MIDDLEFIELD, Conn. (WTNH) — The Middlefield community is collecting donations to support the family of a 6-year-old who was found dead after a house fire last week.

A friend of the family set up a GoFundMe for Becca (Yantosh) Gagnon , the mother of the elementary school student who died.

The GoFundMe says her son’s name was Finn, and he “was a force to be reckoned with who brought love and light to anyone who had the privilege to have met or known him.”

“We’ve set up an official GoFundMe account to help support Becca following the tragic loss of her son and her home,” said Nina Akerley Lindsey, a close friend of the family.

She added all funds will go directly to Becca. As of midday Monday, more than $70,000 has been raised – and counting.

“I wanted to say thank you from the bottom of our hearts for everyone’s support,” Akerley Lindsey said.

She especially wanted to thank the businesses who have “done some generous things,” including Durham Dari Serve and Lino’s Italian Market and Deli. She said they’ve been in touch with each of the owners and coordinating with them to get those funds to Becca.

“It means so much to Becca and the family and all those who are suffering from this tragedy,” she said.

This is an ongoing effort and part of a long recovery for the family. Akerley Lindsey said they’ll keep the community posted on how needs may arise.
