THOMASTON, Conn. (WTNH) — A New York man was taken into custody after a person in Thomaston reported that someone had hacked into their computer and demanded $18,000.

Thomaston police learned on Friday that the victim said their computer was hacked, that they were told to call a number they thought was Microsoft and was then told to withdraw $18,000 to hand off to a Federal Deposit Insurance Corporation agent.

Police then stopped the vehicle that was supposed to pick up the money, according to Thomaston officers.

Zhaozhu Lin, 38, of Flushing, New York, has been charged with conspiracy to commit second-degree larceny. He has been released on a $50,000 bond.
