    List of 9/11 memorial events taking place across Connecticut

    NEW HAVEN, Conn. (WTNH) — Communities across Connecticut are planning to hold memorial services on Wednesday to remember the lives lost on Sept. 11, 2001.

    This year marks 23 years since nearly 3,000 people were killed at the World Trade Center in New York City, the Pentagon near Washington, D.C., and in the Flight 93 crash in Shanksville, Pa. Of those, 161 victims had ties to Connecticut.

    Connecticut hosted its annual ceremony on Sept. 5 at Sherwood Island State Park in Westport, where family and friends of the 161 victims with Connecticut ties gathered to honor them.

    Here is a list of some of the ceremonies planned for Wednesday across Connecticut. The list is alphabetized by city or town.

    Danbury

    The city of Danbury will host its annual 9/11 memorial service at 6 p.m. at Elmwood Park, located downtown along Main Street. The park is home to the city’s Sept. 11 monument.

    Derby

    The City of Derby and Derby Fire Department will host its annual memorial service at 6 p.m. at the Derby Green.

    East Hartford

    Goodwin University will host its annual ceremony at 10 a.m. at the Connecticut Fallen Star Memorial on campus.

    Connecticut holds annual 9/11 memorial ceremony

    Groton

    The Southeastern Connecticut Navy community will conduct a flag retirement ceremony at 8:30 a.m. the Historic Ship Nautilus & Submarine Force Museum/

    At 8:46 a.m., the Saluting Battery from Naval Submarine Support Facility’s Weapons Department will commence a six volley gun salute.

    Milford

    The City of Milford will hold a ceremony of song and prary at the Sept. 11 Monument on city hall grounds. Fire Chief Anthony Fabrizi will ring the bells at 8:46 a.m.

    Norwalk

    Norwalk’s annual memorial ceremony will be held 9 a.m. at city hall.

    Ridgefield

    Ridgefield will hold its annual ceremony at 6:30 p.m. at the town’s 9/11 Memorial Monument at 195 Danbury Rd.

    Wallingford

    A remembrance ceremony will be held at 10 a.m. in front of the Wallingford Town Hall.

    Wilton

    The Wilton Firefighters Local 2233 and the Wilton Fire Department will host their annual memorial service at 10 a.m. at the Wilton Fire Headquarters.
