    Suspects charged with using counterfeit money at various Waterbury stores

    WATERBURY, Conn. (WTNH) — Three suspects were charged Monday after state police say they were seen making purchases with counterfeit money at various stores in the city.

    Detectives were alerted to a suspicious vehicle in the area of Union Street Monday around 2 p.m. At least two of the suspects were accused of buying at least $840 worth of merchandise using counterfeit money at a ‘”retail establishment” there.

    The detectives followed the two suspicious vehicles and watched people associated with them attempt to buy things using counterfeit money at two additional retail locations on Wolcott and Bank streets.

    The suspects were detained at a third retail store. During their arrest, police found an additional $1,100 in counterfeit $20 bills and receipts for purchases made at the first retail location.

    Lemuel Gravesande, 26, of Brooklyn, New York; Alisa A. Mingo, 27, of Brooklyn, New York; and Anthony Roberts, 30, of Waterbury, Connecticut were all charged with first-degree conspiracy to commit forgery and fifth-degree conspiracy to commit larceny.

    Gravesande and Roberts were released on a $50,000 surety bond and are expected for arraignment at Waterbury Superior Court on Oct. 1.

    Mingo was held on a $50,000 bond and was scheduled for arraignment on Sept. 10.

    I've gotten fake $5 dollar bills at least 4 times at a local bodega in wtby ..was going to call police, but nope, they got their phony bills right back...
