Police: New Haven man tried running over female, almost hit 2 cruisers

BRANFORD, Conn. (WTNH) — A New Haven man tried running over a person in a parking lot, led police in a chase and almost hit two police cruisers Monday afternoon in Branford, according to officers.

Jonathan Vega, 25, has been charged with two counts of breach of peace and reckless endangerment. He is facing one charge each of interfering with an officer, engaging police in pursuit, reckless driving, misuse of plates and operating an unregistered motor vehicle. He has been assigned a $50,000 bond.

Police said that Vega tried running down someone during a domestic dispute at 1:20 p.m. Monday on Montowese Street. After police arrived, Vega was “recklessly fleeing at a high rate of speed in his vehicle.”

He then almost hit two cruisers, according to police. He was taken into custody after a short foot chase on Damascus Road.

The person he tried running over wasn’t injured.
