MIDDLETOWN, Conn. (WTNH) — Middletown police say a man accused of a shooting earlier this month was arrested Tuesday.

Police said 37-year-old Rondell Jackson of Hartford was charged with shooting a victim in the chest at point blank range after initiating an altercation on Liberty Street on Sept. 18.

Fifth arrest made in deadly 2023 shooting outside Middletown hookah lounge

He’s accused of shooting the victim several more times, but police said he appeared to have a malfunction with his weapon after the first shot and couldn’t continue firing. He fled the scene after.

The victim was transported to a hospital in critical condition, but survived after emergency surgery, according to police.

He’s facing criminal attempt to commit murder, first-degree assault, unlawful discharge of a firearm, and criminal possession of a firearm.

Jackson was held on a $1 million surety bond after a court date on Sept. 25.
