BRIDGEPORT, Conn. (WTNH) — A convicted felon accused of attacking two children and their mother Wednesday in Bridgeport in what police are describing as a “domestic violence incident” appeared in court Thursday.
Abdulrahim Sulaiman, 38, of Bridgeport, was arrested and was charged with three counts of attempted murder, three counts of first-degree assault, two counts of risk of injury to a child and criminal possession of a firearm.
He was arraigned Thursday, and a judge raised his bond to $10 million. If he posts bond, he would be required to wear two ankle monitors.
Both children, ages 6 and 4, and their 33-year-old mother suffered what police described as life-threatening injuries. Police said the 6-year-old remains in critical condition, and the 4-year-old is now stable as of 9 p.m. Monday. The mother’s condition has also been upgraded to stable.
The suspect, a convicted felon, was known to the three victims, according to police.
According to police, the assault happened at an apartment in the 2400 block of Main Street in Bridgeport.
A police report states that the mother called 911 and said that Sulaiman was hitting them with a bat. He was found near the scene with blood on his hands and arms.
Video footage shows Sulaiman coming out a rear window of an apartment building while holding a baseball bat, according to police documents. He swung the baseball bat around before tossing it into a dumpster.
When police entered the apartment, one child was not breathing, according to the report. Officers performed CPR, and the child regained a slight pulse. However, the child does not have brain activity.
The mother told police that Sulaiman had previously threatened to kill her and her children, and had sexually assaulted her at gunpoint, according to the documents.
The Bridgeport Police Department said they would offer counselors to the officers on the scene.
