Man charged with assault after domestic incident in Naugatuck

NAUGATUCK, Conn. (WTNH) — A man was charged with aggravated assault after an alleged domestic incident in Naugatuck, according to police.

Police said they learned that on Sept. 13, 37-year-old Jovani Capozziello of Naugatuck and a victim were engaged in a physical dispute.

According to police, during the argument, the victim attempted to activate the SOS function on their phone, but it was taken away from them. As the victim attempted to leave the residence, Capozziello and the victim became engaged in a physical struggle.

According to an arrest warrant, Capozziello was arrested and charged with assault in the third degree, reckless endangerment in the first degree, strangulation in the second degree, interfering with an emergency call, threatening in the second degree, and disorderly conduct.

Capozziello was released on a $75,000 bond and was scheduled to appear in Waterbury Superior Court on Sept. 23.
